Can someone suggest how they would approach this Motion project?

Hello,

I'm looking to create something similar to the linked video. I plan on doing it in Motion by creating multiple drop zones. Just wondering if anyone has some ideas on how to go about creating something similar? Video Sample

Is there a reason you have to use drop zones? If you're already using Motion you can just place the first round of faces in different layers. Then duplicate the layers and replace the face pictures to create the new faces. Copy until all of your faces have been placed and then slide the layers so that they pop on when you want them to.

Two reasons why I thought about drop zones. One is that I don't have the still yet and I wanted to build out the template while waiting. The second is that I wanted to make this a generator and drop it on a FCPX timeline and add the photos to the drop zones.

You certainly can use drop zones if you want to. The problem comes when the pictures you get are different sizes or you want to make slight adjustments to their framing, etc.. If you're in Motion then you can just make those tweaks on the fly. You can just use template pics until the real ones arrive then swap out the pics and make whatever adjustments are needed in size and framing.

Using drop zones as you're describing is a very good way to approach this- especially if you wish to make the design into a generator for use inside FCPX.
Dropzones will automatically fill the dropzone with your source photo. The aspect ratio doesn't matter.
You have the opportunity to adjust the size and cropping from within the FCPX Viewer.
For control within the Generator tab of the inspector, you will need to publish the dropzone's reposition and scale parameters for each dropzone.

I do this all the time. Saves TONS of time, as I have built up a pretty big collection of these designs over the years, and I can mix and match them as I need for new projects.

Cheers,
Scott

… several ways to accomplish that - depends on what you like to accomplish ;)

your very short example doesn't tell me (me too lame …),
a) are the pics random? or has to be personA in frame#1, B in #2 …?
b) do they swap randomly? Or are these before/after pics of the same person per frame?

what comes to (my) mind is that 'Replicator as Player'-trick, I'm using in my lil' HowTo:
www.fcp.co/forum/7-fcpx-how-to-tutorials...3rds-with-a-txt-file
(basically, very basically 'replace' the txt-file by a sequence of stills)

I guess so, you prefer a Dropzone(s), to create the whole thing in FCPX … not as an independent MotionProject?
