New colour controls

I'm a bit confused by the high, low and mids controls that are part of the colour wheels. To clarify.
Using these controls on the colour board I am able to easily set up highs mis and lows, one control not affecting the others.
Using the same controls on the wheels seems to shift the entire signal either away from or towards black. That makes it difficult to change the mid range with these new controls. Also the clipping level is way lower on the new controls.
I'm working in pro res 422 at 25p.
Is anyone else finding this a little confusing?

I tried to use the color wheels and they are fantastic, it's a real good fortune to have them now, as they also gave it to 14, but I'm sorry if I ask an OT question.
but for the white balance I was told that there is a button to activate it but where is it?
