self-inflicted update hell

So I updated to fcpx 10.4 without knowing it. It's the last thing I wanted to do but I must have had an automatic update setting activated. I woke up to 10.4. Spilt milk. My problem is a library I have that worked in 10.3. It kept warning me about a corrupted file and let me open the library anyway (I tried and failed to hunt down the corrupted file - should have tried harder!). So now I have 10.4 and it won't let me open that library. I still have 10.2.3 for some reason and tried to open the library, but they said I created it with a later version - which is true (10.3) - so my question is, how do I download 10.3 and reinstall that? I can't open anything in 10.2.3. I'm still in Sierra if that makes a difference.
thx

Don't know where to find a copy of 10.3, but installing that would be easier. Do you run daily or weekly backups?
Try opening one of the Library database backups, usually found in the Movies folder, "Final Cut Backups".

Yeah I have backups but they were all in 10.3. So this particular library is in a kind of limbo - too new for 10.2.3 and too old and corrupt for 10.4. I'll just have to figure out how to get 10.3. If I had known I was going to upgrade to 10.4, I would have saved a version of 10.3. thx

You’re the third person with this issue that I’ve come across on the forum in a week. I uploaded a copy of 10.3.4 to DropBox last week - I’ve just undeleted it again. If you email me at ian at creativeimpetus dot co dot uk I’ll send you the link to download it.
My New Year resolution is to archive the latest version key apps as soon as I get them in case this ever happens to me!
Best wishes,
Ian.

I managed to download Ian's 10.3 but It looks like fcpx is really hung up on a couple of corrupt files in my library, As I said before, I can't even find them and I can only open the library for a few seconds before it crashes. So is it possible to create a new library and copy projects using the finder? I'd be happy to cherry-pick the projects in the library , but I don't know if that's even feasible. Is it possible to rescue projects from a library that's rendered inaccessible? I've updated to 4.0 on another computer and I still can't access that library. thx

I had the same thing a while back and eventually solved it by opening the Library in the finder and deleting all of the waveform and thumbnail caches - there is one in every event. Obviously do this on a copy of the library!
You could also delete the render files this way since you can’t currently do it from within FCPX. Final Cut Library Manager also allows deletion of generated files from its interface without opening the library in FCPX. There’s no guarantee that this will work but copying the library with the Finder and trying this on the copy can’t make things worse...

Deleting Cache files is very safe, as this is all stuff FCPX can regenerate later by itself.

Dumb question - should I simply delete the Render folder and it will regenerate itself or open up each of the High Quality, Peaks, and Thumbnail folders and select all the files and delete them? thx
