Audio Side Chain was created by PSaurbier2
Hello everybody, I am new to the Forum and to FCPX.
Except for struggling with the Magnetic Timeline (is it really an advantage?
), I have one major concern:
Can I do Sidechain Compression on Audio? The Plugins do offer a Sidechain in the UI, but there seems no way to route the controlling signals there.
If it helps, here is what Sidechaining means:
Audio 1 (Music) is compressed, but the compressor is controlled by the output of Audio2 (speech).
Very effective method of bringing Background Music an speech together, much better than manual ducking. And faster, of course
Can anybody help? I am an Audio Editor for years, and I horribly miss that feature..
Have a good New Year, everybody!
Peter

I grew up in recording studios, I know what side-chain is, and no, you can't side chain in FCPX. These are effects that came directly from Logic Pro X, where you can side-chain. But no, not in FCPX. There's usually an alternative/workaround to get what you're working towards in FCPX, though. What is your goal?
You can also send your FCPX Timeline to Logic Pro X to work on audio there.

Hey there,
my goal is to access the quick workflow of sjidechaining to bring up speech against music while not losing so much presence in the music.
Ducking whole passages is really lame in comparison. Being a musician, I want the music to be strong, and still have my vocals on top.
Best way: sidechaining
Even better: combination of Side-Chaining and Multiband-Side-Chaining
If you see any work around that is not manual key framing, I would be happy.
Exporting via XML is a bit awkward, and it produces a lot of errors in my setup here. Final Cut excerpts wrong audio passages, sometimes. So what I hear in Logic is not at all the same I have in Final Cut. Don´t know why that is...
Thanks again!

Probably not the solution you are looking for -Ben is the audio expert here - but I just saw this FCPX plugin yesterday:
ulti.media/fcpx-autoduck/
I have no idea how well it works but it's cheap to try.

Hello. thanks, that's a great Tip to try out anyway!
For most purposes, this might help. Its no multi band compression, of course - but it might be close to regular compression, depending on how quick the reaction is and if it is somehow tweakable. Anyway, for THAT price, definitively worth trying
Thanks again

Side chain method is a "workaround" to ducking. A plugin that directly does ducking is what you need. I just got the Auto Duck refereed to, but have yet to test it out. Will be soon and posting a blog review this weekend.
