Hi,

I've been asked to produce a video for a 7sqm display, but I'm confused because they require mp4 video with dimensions Width 448 px Height 288 px, which once blown up will look very bad.

These are the specs they've sent me

SPECS

Surface

7 m² Screen surface

Layout requirements
Width 448 px
Height 288 px

Resolution
72 dpi

Colour
Bold colours recommended
Contrast is important
No white background

Duration
10 Seconds max

Format
Jpg / Mp4

How can I produce a video that will show good on a 7sqm display?

Thank you for your help

Welcome Paolo to fcp.co :)

How can I produce a video that will show good on a 7sqm display?

well, from 10 meters away it will look pretty good ;)

No, those specs are nonsense …
448x288 isn't 16:9 … for a start.
there's no such thing as 'dots per inch', that is a Print-only measure…
aside the fact, a 488x288 video on a 7qm display offers ~4 pixels per inch (estimated)

I can only guess, what reasons such odd values (besides: of much more interest would be frame- and bit- rate and, most of all codec???), but most probably, the 'player' is some tiny, unbranded 'stick' I guess?

FCPX supports any res and frame-rate, but with those specs … lil' hope of some quality outcome.......

Who said it has to be 16:9? It's most likely for an advertisement display used in a public space... I guess?
And those are meant to be viewed from quite a big distance...

So... I guess ignore the 72dpi bit as there's no way to get that on 7sqm with a 448x288 resolution ;)

Just create a custom sized project in FCPX...

But as for design purposes it would be good to know what kind of display and in what environment it it.

I have used FCPX to create banners for webpages that were 240x60 pixels or somesuch... some things become a bit funky but it works ;)

I've done a lot of digital signage stuff. I have one client who insists their system uses 400-something by 200-something images. They're using HD monitors. I ignore her and send standard 720 HD files that work great. She has no clue of the difference, but is very happy with what I send her.

What ever the frame size of the screen is, that's the frame size of the files you send. It should be as simple as that. I think your client is operating off of bad information.

That is also a very probable situation.

Make sure to ask exactly what the use will be etc. And what kind of screen it will be shown on.

Thank you guys, this is great help!

Basically the screen is a digital signage shown around town along roads mainly.

They've provided me with some b-roll footages 1080p I can fish stuff from. I was thinking to use a slideshow such as this one videohive.net/item/triangles-slideshow/17366961?s_rank=26

do you think the level of detail is too fine and that graphics should be more blocky?

Thank you!
Paolo
