Scaled 4k looks awful

Hello. I have some 4k video that I put into a 1080p timeline. I then scaled the clip 200%... and it looks awful. I thought I could do that without any loss of quality.

People talk about doing this all the time, so I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Or could it be my source video just looks bad at 1080p?

Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

Does it look bad in the timeline AND in your output (rendered) file?

Yes! I posted another thread that is much more detailed and I think I got this question answered there:

Instead of scaling to 200%, change the Spatial Conform of the clip to None.
