High Sierra Weirdness

It seems that I too have succumbed to High Sierraitis, I have a late 2012 iMac,24 gig memory, nvidia 1 gb video card,
that came as an option with that model. I had been getting the nvidia warnings about updating driver which I did but to no avail as per experience of many others. Eventually I manually deleted the driver as evidently FCPX does not use it. This actually seemed to improve the frequent freezes and "go slow" playback problems but not eliminate them. Now I find that I can't add a simple dissolve in the angle editor without it going into beachball mode.
I have in the last few days deleted and reinstalled FCPX , I am now considering re installing High Sierra. Should I try to install the Nvidia driver and if so is there a particular driver that I should install other than the latest available from their website?
Any suggestions would be welcome.
