Weird FCPX behaviour

I am experiencing some weird behaviour in FCPX with regard to overwriting to primary storyline. See the video in the link for a demo. It's driving me nuts!

Never seen that, can't duplicate it. First two things I'd do:
1- Go to Commands and verify that short cut hasn't been accidentally changed.
2- Delete Preferences.
That is very odd.

I agree this is very odd. As Ben said, first thing I would try is delete the FCP X preferences.

Hey Suzero,
I've seen this behaviour before. I remember I was able to fix it, but I can't remember exactly how. It may have been as simple as copy and pasting the timeline into a new project. But it may have involved making a new library and transferring into that.
Definitely delete the prefs first though, just in case.

Thanks for all the replies.
Here's an update for those interested.
I trashed PREFs, didn't help.
Position tool was not selected.
The problem appeared to have something to do with codecs and progressive material combined with interlaced? Although all the material has the same frame rate (25fps).
I am taking over this edit from a director who edited themselves so the timeline is rather chaotic.
I copy-pasted into a new project and the new timeline was a little longer. Then I discovered why - it had inserted 1 frame of black inbetween quite a lot of cuts (but not all). I am now manually removing them (quite hard labour in a 53 minute documentary).
[Some time later... this post was still open]. Removing them was too risky. Some connected audio clips lost their sync. I don't have the time (nor the familiarity with this particular edit) to go through it all and spot where things went awry.
So I am back to my original timeline... hoping for the best when exported for grading and audio-mix.

You’re quite zoomed in and the clip is moving in one frame increments. Word things can happen when audio files are involved as they can be edited in subframe increments than video cannot line up to.

Sub-frames, that snap to audio samples, not video frames. Video should only be snapping to the start of each frame. Audio can trim to sub-frames, which are audio sample ticks between the start and stop of a video frame. It seems a couple of your clips are trimmed to audio sub-frames, not video frames.
You're very, very zoomed in to that timeline, also. When you move the skimmer, you see gray around it. That gray is the time of a single audio frame. Example; at 20fps each frame takes up 1/20 of a second. 60fps, each video frame takes up 1/60 of a second.
