Apple USB SuperDrive not working in macOS Sierra 10.12.6

Hey there guys,
I hope that this post finds you all in excellent spirits, and that you are having a wonderful weekend.
I am trying to burn a DVD edited in FCP X. There is just one problem: when I plug in my external USB Apple SuperDrive (either directly into a mid-2015 MacBook Pro or via a USB hub), it makes a noise as if to say it's switched on, but then:
(i) it doesn't accept DVDs; and
(iii) it doesn't show up in Finder.
This is a total mystery to me because I have tried using the SuperDrive on another laptop (MacBook Pro 15", mid-2012) and it works perfectly. So I know that the issue is not with the SuperDrive.
(The reason I can't use the mid-2012 laptop for burning the DVD is that my FCP files, having been upgraded to the format required by Final Cut Pro 10.3.3, no longer work on the 10.0.9. that I am stuck with on the old MacBook Pro.)
I have scoured the Internet but there does not seem to be an instance of an external USB drive seemingly switching on and still not being recognised by the system or accepting discs.
Any ideas, guys? As ever, I would be grateful for any assistance.

With the drive connected directly to the computer go to YSB in System Information in the Utilities folder and see if it’s recognized.

Wow, I've never seen that before. Yes, it is there. I have uploaded a screenshot, although it's not displaying for some reason.

Select a folder in the Finder and see if it lets you burn it from the Finder.

It seems to be showing up as 'Remote Disc', but I can't actually insert a DVD to test it. That's the problem.

Sounds like a problem withy drive itself. Maybe something's got jammed in it.

Okay, we solved the problem. For anyone out there reading this, here's the solution:
1. Plug your SuperDrive directly into a USB port on your MacBook Pro. It should make a 'click-whirr' noise.
2. Turn off your MacBook Pro, keeping the SuperDrive plugged in.
3. Insert a DVD into your SuperDrive as far as it will go without forcing it (usually about 75% of the way in).
4. Turn on your MacBook Pro again. This time, the SuperDrive should make a more audible noise, and will attempt to swallow your DVD. It will then eject your DVD. However, if you now try inserting the DVD, it should work fine.
