I can't duplicate this, mine works as expected. Is this actually on the clip itself? Not a compound or effect layer or something? This is directly on a video clip in the Timeline, right?

hmmm … trying to re-enact your problem …
hard to follow your 'stacking order'
(hint: if you want just the audio-track of a clip, hit cmd-3 before dragging. it to your timeline/cmd1-1=a+v, cmd-2=v only, cmd-3=a only) ....
the black is the muted track#3, that's easy.
And it's a rectangle, 'cause track#2 has a 'hole' that size
… in MY example.
What keeps me stunning: you have inside AND outside the mask the same content! So, I can only assume, the 'positive music' compound is made of DJI0335 material too....
What do you try to accomplish with a mask in the primary anyhow?
'positive music' I assume is a music track?
so, what else to show outside the mask? The photo (DSC…) - but you muted that…??

thanks for the 2nd grab …
My first reaction was:
clips#2 has a much smaller resolution than #1
BUT…
this does not explain, why your Draw Mask shows both, inside AND outside the mask!
(in the masks Inspector settings you can invert the mask. …)
another attempt, playing here with the Composition modes (e.g. Behind) = can. not re-enact your observation.
What happens when you apply a diff. mask, Shape for example (delete the Draw Mask first!)
---edit---
ok, one can create the same 'effect' - with some efforts:
clip#1 comp mode to 'Behind', Draw Mask to clip #2, set to invert …
… but I guess, these are not your settings :silly:

I cannot reproduce your issue. Did you refresh your preferences after having updated to the latest version of FCP X? If not, that is the first thing you should try:
Close FCP X, then open it again while holding the ALT and CMD keys pressed down. A message will appear asking if you want to delete your preferences. Confirm and let FCP X launch.

Sorry this didn't solve the problem, and thank you for trying.
Before we go drastic, I would like you to put only one clip on the timeline and apply the Draw Mask filter to it. Then, in the Video Inspector, check the Invert checkbox for the Draw Mask filter. Does this work?
