color finale look grades with transitions help

Hello all,

I am trying to work out hot to use transitions with color finale look grades. Right now I am using fade to black transitions into clips that have a look grade applied over the top. Whats happening is as the black fades up into the clip I cant get it to bend with the look grade. The grade just starts over the black and is vert obvious.
what is the fix for this?

Many thanks

Jack

Since your look grade is a connected clip to the clip in the primary storyline you need to create a compound clip (select the look grade and the underlying clip and hit Option G). This will make a compound clip out of the two items and then you'll be able to apply the transition as normal. You may need to leave enough handles on both sides of the clip and look grade inside the compound clip if the result shortens the desired in point. See the FCPX manual if you need more information on how to extend the clips inside a compound clip.
