based on the article (German only) iOS is set as default HEVC for iPhone camera setting which isn't supported yet in fcpx and is supposted to be implemented in "a couple of months". So in case you want to avoid black screen / non display of video content you should switch back to H264 in camera setting of the iPhone.

I personally was not aware of that so maybe worth sharing ...

Yes, we're all expecting the update to be released in conjunction with the Creative Summit, just like the last two years.

I’m running ios 11.0.1 on a Iphone 6s (US) and don’t see the setting in my settings. This is probably something for Iphone 7 or 8 on up?

all devices with a A9 chip starting with iPhone 6s. Check a setting under camera App.

But funny that fcpx requires a couple of more time to include that in the App. Seems that communication between iOS and FCPX team is weak

Communication between Apple departments isn't weak, just that the pro video app team is releasing updates for Creative Summit, as they always do. Then it'll all work. Each devision can do releases at their own choosing within a reasonable time frame. The productivity apps have been updated. Logic Pro X hasn't yet. It'll all work out soon. I'm betting on the Summit in 3 weeks, we'll see all the pro app updates showcased there, IMHO.
