HI Guys,
Does anyone know the best way to get particles into their video. I'm guessing stock footage on green screen and then keying them out.
I don't know Motion, but if I learned it, would that help in creating Particles?
Thank you,
Phil

Motion is how you make particles for FCPX. It's not that difficult to learn. Don't let the interface scare you. Once you start learning the basics, it gets easy.

Define 'particles'
You can do lots of particles with Motion, build your own effects, as an example my free plugin KRMBLE, which 'atomises' any title into parts …
www.fcp.co/forum/text-titles/25415-krmbl...-text-into-particles
And there are much more elaborated ones in Motion, it lists +200
(excerpt)
… you can use 'ready made' or modify in extenso …
Depends on, what you're looking for. Keep two things in mind:
• the actual version of Motion offers very little 'Physics', to create realistic particles, e.g. no collision detection
• particles stretch your hardwares limits, an effect with a thousand particles needs a lot of computation …
So, … particles are nice, but for example a realistic fire is done practical much easier

Yeah i find Motion handy to cover all those 'special features" that FCPX doesn't cover. The price is amazingly cheap too.
I'm not a big fan of many of it's presets though, but thats me personally. If time lends itself favourably I find it potentially a better option to construct my own effects. I'm hardly a power user. Simon Ubsdell has some killer tutorials on YouTube though.

I only wish it had better round-trip editing support.
