Relinking gets stuck on certain files was created by olucho
Hi all,
I'm experiencing an issue with recent larger projects when I am trying to relink a large amount of media. The window that says "Verfying files for compatibility" seems to get stuck for a LONG time on a specific file name for a random file. It seems to choose files that are in a different format like MP4 or MXF (as opposed to MOV) to get stuck on. Eventually it will move past that file and finish, or get stuck on another file again for a long time. Anyone experiencing this too?
I'm running FCP 10.3.4 on macOS Sierra on 2016 MacBook Pro.
Luis

I have experienced this but I'm not sure it's stuck on a single file, rather the app is not updating the UI. In any event it's not a permanent application hang -- it just takes a long time for a large relink. I've seen it take 20 minutes for some large libraries I have, and that's on a top-spec 2017 iMac 27 and Thunderbolt 2 SSD RAID-0 array.
The relink logic of FCPX definitely needs some improvement. As mentioned above the UI should always reflect the application state, not get hung while the app keeps working. That is just proper UI design.
Another example: you should be able to limit the relink time by navigating to the media sub-folder, but sometimes the UI yanks control away before you can do that and just searches the entire volume. Another example is relink is totally unreliable when dealing with external proxy files when the drive volume name has changed. The only real solution in that case is rename the volume to the original name where the proxies were generated.
