How to prevent storyline assets in Final Cut Pro X from getting automatically resized? was created by nachocab
I'm on Final Cut Pro X 10.3.1 and I've noticed that when I create a storyline of connected clips with linked images (as opposed to images copied into the library), the images sometimes get resized to be 25% smaller. This happens whenever I update the image file outside of FCPX. To fix it, I have to select each one and apply a transform of 125%, which is kind of annoying.
Is there a workaround to this bug?

What do you mean by linked images? Are you dragging and dropping from the Finder into the storyline? The default spatial conform behavior is to fit the image to the project. Large format images will be scaled down automatically. If you import the images into the browser you can set the spatial conform before you edit them into the project.

By linked images I mean I imported them and I selected "Leave files in place"
So, maybe these three images will explain it better:
Image 1) The blue icon in the first connected clip is selected, the X position is 816.9 and scale is 57.76%
Image 2) I copy the attributes from image 1 into the other blue icon, but nothing shows up because, for some reason, the X has been pasted as 2625.7.
Image 3) I fix the X position manually, but even though the scale is 57.76% the icon is much bigger than in Image 1

Are all three the same image? Once again, did you import using drag and drop from the Free nest to the project , that would s the timeline, not the browser? What are the original specs of the image or images?

It's a single .png image, 300 x 300 px . I imported by doing File | Import | Media and choosing "Leave files in place"
It is the same image because I created the second instance by dragging and dropping while pressing alt (all within the timeline)

I can’t see why this is happening to you. You might try updating to the current version. There were a number of bugs in the early versions of 10.3.

I cannot reproduced this in 10.3.0, nor any later version.
So, of I get this right, this is what you do:
1. Drop the image onto your timeline.
2. Create a second instance of the image on the timeline by ALT-dragging the first image..
3. Resize and reposition the first image.
4. Use Paste Attributes to copy and paste the Scale and Position of the first image onto the second one.
Is that correct?

Thanks for the answers, guys.
Yes, Ronny, that is correct. The only added step is that later I might update the image, so that it gets auto-updated in the timeline (since it is linked, not copied). Then I might duplicate that connected clip a few more times, and one of those usually shows the problem I reported.
I will try updating to the latest version and report back
