Hello,
Need advise on FCPX as something weird happening and we are facing this issue for the first time.
- When you watch the footage in FCPX browser , it looks out of focus.
- but the moment you pause the frame, its comes back to focus.
- Same happens when you drop the footage on timeline, you play,...it looks out of focus and on pause its in focus.
What can be the issue ?

Do the media specs match the project settings? Does the media need to be rendered? Is playback set to better performance or high quality?

Yes, FCPX will degrade video in order to be able to play it back more smoothly. Tom's questions will verify this.

I bet the viewer is set to "Better Performance". Very old FCP behavior. In ancient FCP, you could have tons of effects on a clip (red render bar), and on playback it would say NOT RENDERED. But it would always render the preview of the frame the playhead was on in full quality when playback was paused. Coming to think of it, it's unbelievable how much we became accustomed to smooth realtime playback by now. FCP X uses every trick to enhance the performance. Note that you can't choose FULL QUALITY, but only BETTER QUALITY. FCP then seems to try to keep the resolution but instead drops frames if the going gets tough. Formerly known as Dynamic Real Time , to be set directly in the timeline.
