FCPX / Premier round tripping Multicam projects

I need to assist someone who is on Windows + Adobe Premier. The project is using MULTICAM and we need to round trip, so that multicam edits can be imported back into Premier, where the multicam cuts need to be adjustable.

Apparently according to my limited research, all round tripping programs fail with multicam .

Is anyone aware of a procedure or tool, that would allow moving a library with multicam edits of a project, back to Premier such that the multicam edits can be changed in Premier?

Thanks in advance,

Going between NLEs has always been unstable. More so with FCPX. Why not create and edit the multicam in PPro?

The recording was done by my friend, who uses Windows and Premier. Total is about 75hrs of 4k with 4 cameras! He asked if I could help, but I only have FCPX (on Mac, of course). However he wants to be able to fine tune the edits.

Not sure if it is possible. :)

(One option is to install Premier for Mac for the trial period, or use his 2nd seat license). I would prefer to work in FCPX, as I have never used Premier.

I don't know about Premier back to FCPX but I can tell you from experience that multicam FCPX to Premier works just fine with the XtoCC XML converter from Intelligent Assistance Software. They also make a Premier to FCPX XML converter. As long as your timeline is cuts only or with simple transitions that have Premier analogs, everything from video to audio cuts and adjusts transfer just fine. No filters will transfer over. Don't bother with Color Correction either.

Edit multicam in FCPX and get it to PPro, don't think you can. The only option is X2CC, and it collapses multicames. Don't think your workflow between NLEs for multicam is going to work. Get PPro on your Mac and simply use it.

According to the documentation for X2CC, under their heading "What loses something in translation?" they say that "Multicam clips become “collapsed” clips containing the active angle(s)." Grr. :(

We collapse mutlicam clips going from FCP X to Premiere Pro because the older XML that Premiere imports (FCP 6 era) can only contain the simplified multi cams that FCP classic produced - one clip per track, for example. With that limitation, there's no way to import an active multicam via that XML because so many situations can't be mapped to the old XML.

We think we have an approach that might allow live multi cams to be imported, but it requires three specific steps inside Premiere Pro that are beyond our control, and that makes me very nervous that it will be interpreted as not working.

When round-tripping FCP multi-cam timeline to Premiere via XtoCC, you say it flattens the timeline into the angles used. Does it identify the angle by its original clip name?

I'm trying to roundtrip braw fr DVR to/from a FCP multi-cam and it doesn't even identify the angle when sent back to DVR so it's near impossible to link back to original braw clip.

If clip name shows in PP flattened multicam from FCP, could roundtrip that to DVR and link to braw files.

With multicam clips from FCP we flatten to the active angle for each instance. No metadata is used, other than the angle being active. No names are used. All information on other angles, or that  a mulitcam ever existed is lost. That's why we do not (officially) support round tripping workflows.

The reason we have to flatten (destroy) multicam clips is because the old xmeml (FCP Classic) XML format that Premiere Pro uses, does not support most of FCP's modern multicam features.

There is a theoretical path we could use but it's extremely clunky and requires changing settings in Premiere after translation, and our experience has been that workflows like that create enormous support burdens for us, as people don't understand complex instructions.

A round trip workflow using mulitcam clips is not possible at this time.

I'd kill for someone to make a utility app that pulls Resolve multicams to FCP as multicams.

Same problem. The old XML that Premiere Pro uses doesn't support modern multicam data structures, like multiple clips in the same angle. Resolve, like we are, is limited to what the XML supports.
