Search For Clips

My Daughter plays soccer, i record the games and post the full match and highlights on youtube. I record the play in 2 x 45 minuet half files. Bring these files into FCPX and basically use the blade tool to 'cut' the segments i don't want out of the highlights of Game 'Project'. All that works seems to work well ...
So we are now approaching the end of the season and im looking for a way to use FCP search tools (ie keywords or video roles) to be able to make up Highlights for each player.
When i try and do this FCP just shows me the 45 min clip name that the bit of video i want is in. What i want is the 'sub clips' of that file with all markings of a specific player. ie for the goalkeeper, all saves that i mark 'save' or 'goal'.
There must be a way to do this and im only certain im doing something wrong .
Many thanks
Graham

'soccer Dad videos'? My domain, example ! (frequent readers of fcpco know I HAVE to chime in here) …
first of all, shocking news: the Blade tool is not for 'cutting' video.
My workflow for a Highlight video:
• import raw material into FCPX
• (extra step here, due to placing several unmanned cams along the green: create a Multicam)
• in the Event Browser, I rush the trough the material, using the J/K/L keys: setting In/Outs by hitting I/O => can all be done while watching the preview.
• the good ones get an F = favourite
meanwhile I can tag a 90min game in less than 20min
• … I can not only tag the good ones, but those parts for a Highlight real, or 'to be slowmoed', or by player name => FCPX creates me automatically a playlist for those …
• switch browser to Show Favourites only and/or select the playlist you need for your project.
in short: until now, NOTHING is applied to the Project, nor to the timeline … the 'magic' happens in the Event Browser.
What you have in mind is 'Reverse Favoriting' and best explained by the rippletwins:

If you do this, I promise by the time your finished, you have basic edits already in your mind, and the rest goes really quickly. Even coming back to a project later (which I do frequently) goes really swiftly. If I haven't seen a project in a month, and have to come back to it, just seeing my list of keywords and such refreshes my memory immediately enough to make finding promo clips and such much easier.

well, basically: Get The Round Into The Square …
If you have any questions, and there're really weird rules, e.g. what part of the human body is the hand, what is a passiv offside, when the ball bounces from the ref into the goal - does it count? - drop me a line! :silly:
How old is your lil' kicker? (diff. rules for diff. ages) …

AH HA! Now I get it! It's like basketball with your feet, and on the ground, and no dribbling, and... ok, not like basketball... ugh...
Turning 14 next month, this is his freshman high school soccer. And his coach insists everyone calls it football. Which in America gets confusing. But, not like we haven't been really confusing for some time now... (sigh)
(Dreaming of life in New Zealand or Australia)
I'm learning the really important parts of the game as we go along. How to handle parking lot traffic if we arrive less than an hour early, how to manage the car battery and my iPad when waiting for other teams to play first, sunscreen, what's a nice chair to bring and what sort of chairs suck, snack selections for 100 degree and 100 percent humidity tropical days (southeast Louisiana is a tropic zone), how to manage the other twin who gets board out of his ADHD mind during meets, etc. Yeah, I'm learning the really important rules of soccer first...

Thanks for the tips, that nailed it, mind you i now need screen number #2 to allow for more real estate when editing
It funny how you dream of life in Australia, most of our guys dream of life in USA, Im English by birth and moved here back in '98. I did some work in US working for a company called XM Satellite radio in its early days.

football is more like football, but played with a ball and mainly by foot …
But reading your list, you're perfectly on track, esp, 'folding chair' … I needed +2 years to come up with that smart idea.
Add to your list tons of bottles with colorful liquids, burn spray (guess, in the US you play on plastic, not gras?), tape=nothing's cooler than fixing leg protectors with tape, … and get accommodate, those lousy shoes costs an arm and a leg … diff. shoes for green/plastic, indoor/outdoor, training/match, twice a year 'cause they grow so fast!
14y … so, no Pampers-league (
LOVE watching the babies herding all to the ball :silly: ), but no 'full size' either (no 90min, no 11 players, small goals, no full size field) … it's called here GoldenAge, 'cause you can now start to coach them techniqué and tactics …Next on your list: terminology to impress the other SoccerMoms … learn, what a pendant six is (no lame duck), 4:3:2 (no, no video-compression scheme) and yell frequently "play the line!" or "bring it into the box!" …
conc. offside rule, simple:
your team has the ball = "that was neverever offside!"
others = "ref, are you blind?! Miles offside!!!"
What's his/her position?
… and start to record matches … addicting
(Sorry for threadjacking, but talking football makes even more fun than playing it, Germany is a nation of 80mio soccer-coaches)

Thanks for the head sup, and I have zero desire to video stuff when I'm not getting paid for it. Cause I'm too burnt out from the producing the stuff I do get paid for...
Shoes, clothes, and now we're going through TONS of toys they don't play with anymore (twins, two of everything...).

ROTFL!!!
(teenagers here replace 'like' with a 'so'… terrible!!)
Those number schemes are important for the position your son plays… anyhow. Wiki for it.
Grass - much better! To play, and for the kids health. More work for the detergents.
Here, an official rules tells:
When you drop the ball on the field at the corner flag, from shoulder high, and it doesn't jump, it's raining too much/field is too wet/'unplayable'.
…as a filming SoccerDad you soon consider a dive-housing for your precious cameras… LOL
