Why FCP X ?

Why FCP X ? was created by Pontoneer
As a new member of this forum , let me start by asking the big and obvious question .
I have been editing for many years , originally with a Sony Type V U-Matic suite , eventually getting into NLE with my first iMac DV and iMovie , then Adobe Premiere . I've been through various iterations of Final Cut , starting out with Final Cut Express , and latterly have been using FCP 7 on my 8 core Mac Pro 3,1 . I also use FCP 7 on my MBP when out and about .
If I am completely honest , I am very happy and comfortable using FCP 7 ; it is both familiar and capable ; it gets the job done .
Having just purchased a Matrox MXO2 input/output box to ingest some legacy analogue footage , and installed the latest drivers , I noted it recommends FCP X , so downloaded the 30 day trial . However , having imported material using the Matrox capture utility , I then have files which can be imported equally into FCP 7 or FCP X .
I've just scratched the surface , and find FCP X not so very familiar , so I was looking for some pointers and to see what the advantages might be over continuing with FCP 7 .

Welcome Derek to fcp.co
Why FCPX? … that discussion, again, ongoing for now 6 years?
ok, for a start:
Mike Matzdorf in 3x1min:

or, perhaps, you prefer a more practical approach -…

Yes, FCPX is very different. To learn it, first, forget everything you learned about other NLEs and NEVER try to compare an FCPX function or workflow with something in another NLE.
Karsten's links are great, and here's another from my own web site.

But seriously learn FCPX. FCP7 is a ghost, and won't run on macOS for much longer. Yes, I'm being pushy. That said, here's the three best methods for learning it, when you're ready to dive in. Proper training up front will save you tons and tons of time and frustration. And all of these go quickly. FCPX is super easy to teach/learn (disclosure; I'm a certified trainer).

Thanks
I'll add these to my 'homework' for the weekend !
Since both my current Macs are maxxed out at El Capitan , FCP 7 not running on later OS isn't an immediate worry ( I also still have a G5 hanging on my network and used regularly , as well as a few even older Macs around the house , so don't always rush to upgrade quickly ) .
From what little I've seen so far , 'X' does seem to have the potential for a simpler and quicker workflow compared to '7' , so I'll play with it until I feel competent to do work for others on it .
I'm also watching for FCP X seminars at my local Apple Store ( Glasgow ) but so far only iMovie is on offer .

Apple Store FCPX classes aren't much. By the time you get to one, it'll be stuff you already know.

The classes can sometimes be good : a lot depends on how much of a 'genius' the tutor is

The so called geniuses are not all that... I've seen a few, not impressed...
Apple has an army of "Authorized Trainers" out there, who as part of their certification provide proof they have industry experience. You'd think they'd take advantage of these to come in and do REAL training. But, nope, they as they always have, crap on their ACTs. History repeats itself...
