Duplicate clips upon XML import

Duplicate clips upon XML import was created by joema
I've isolated an issue to an apparent bug in FCPX filename handling during XML export/import. Conceivably this could affect various products using XML. I'd appreciate any comments or feedback.
Description: Under some conditions, loading an event or library XML may cause duplicate clips if the ratings or keywords have changed since the XML was created. This happens even IF the "replace" option is picked during XML import. FCPX creates two (or more) unique clip views within the Event Browser which map to the same clip on disk.
Scenario: Prior to import, duplicate filenames exist in separate folders. This is common since many cameras don't make unique clip filenames, e.g, Sony A7RII. After import FCPX combines these in date-named folders, avoiding filename conflict by appending a "uniquifier" suffix. The problem does not happen if the filenames are natively unique on disk before import.
Impact: Loading an XML from a large event could create hundreds of duplicate clips within the FCPX Event Browser. This clutters the display and makes it difficult to proceed. Each duplicate clip can be deleted by hand from the Event Browser, but this is time consuming and error prone.
Comment: Ideally you want globally unique clip filenames , but this should not be a requirement, and FCPX is designed to handle this. During import FCPX itself partially creates the problem by combining files from multiple folders to a single folder, then making them unique with an added suffix. After an XML import, the post-processing sequence is not handling filename uniqueness correctly.
The behavior is not unique to any filename convention or codec type, and does not require large numbers of files. Replication scenario:
(1) Place two different camera files with the same name in different sub-folders.
(2) Import these into FCPX. Note within the library package the files have been given unique suffixes.
(3) Mark one clip favorite
(4) Export the event XML
(5) In FCPX remove favorite from that clip
(6) Load event XML; if prompted answer "Replace" to the duplicate clips question
(7) Note within Event Browser there are now two duplicate clips
Versions: FCPX 10.3.4, macOS 10.2.5
