clips off line everytime I re-open FCPX was created by Schwalbach
Hi,
I have moved this project to a portable HD so I could work on the road.
But now, every time I open FCPX some clips and off line. FCPX doesn't let me relink the clips, so I have to import everything again. It all works fine...but if I close and re-open FCPX they're off line again...
How can I fix this?
And now the project is finished and it won't let me share it as all the option under the share menu are grayed out.
This issue must be linked to the previous one I guess.
Please advise. I need to deliver this edit tonight.
Thanks

After moving the Library to the portable drive, did you run a Consolidate on it? Just curious.

If I try to consolidate it says: THERE ARE NO FILES TO CONSOLIDATE

When I load the project, with all the off line media in it etc, I am able to share it...
When I import the media correspondent to the offline clips, they immediately come online...but then I cannot export anymore.
How do I replace the offline files when the relink doesn't work???
How do I fix this issue???
I am lost

OK, aside from deleting pref files, I'm not sure what does this.

What kind of clips are these? Codec? Are you using external media, or is everything supposed to be in teh library. Have you tried making a new library and copying your sequences and media to there? Could be something corrupt... but I've never seen this happen the way you describe. As noted by someone else, deleting preferences is a good first step (hold down option-cmd when clicking on the icon).

These are just some guesses: by "moved the project", you probably moved the library to the portable HD. You also must be using external media, not managed media. If it were all managed (ie within the library) it would not be off line.
If using external media, you must EITHER (1) move all that media plus the library, or (2) Within FCPX change the library media storage location to "in library", then consolidate, then move the now-large library file itself.
The portable hard drive likely has a different volume name than the media on the original drive. If using external media This will cause the clips to appear off line -- even if they were copied to the portable drive in the same location. Normally at that point you can relink, however there are some issues if you are using external proxies, ie proxies outside the library. I have seen many cases where relink will simply fail in this case if the drive name is different.
Your fastest solution may be rename the portable drive volume name to match the original and try that. If this doesn't work you can delete proxies and try relinking to the original media, then rebuild proxies on the portable drive.
Within FCPX always be aware of whether the viewer is looking at proxies or original media. If clips appear off line, are these proxy only or original media?
