Welcome Gremek to fop.co :)

… hmmm? Your example pixelates parts of a pic => this could be done with Masks + Motion comes with a canned Pixelate effect.

… but:
your example shows those pixelated areas are 'tracked' => SliceX comes to mind. Asks the helpful folks at coremelt.com …

… but:
It looks like (hard to see in that video), those 'blocks' move 3D! …

Dare to say, not possible in FCPX/M5 …
It's an ugly effect anyhow :silly:

There is a name for that effect, it escapes me. I played around with it years ago. Basically you're hacking code in the video file itself. There's probably tools to do this in a more controlled way now. But back several years ago, it was a data hacking things. Man, the term for it is on the sip of my tongue, what was it called? DATAMOSHING! That's it!

indeed, it is! Excellent find, Ben

never seen, heard, read of it …
so far away of my likes, never reached my 'relevant set' of effects :silly:

Guess, that is something in the realms of VJ-ing … they do … such … things.

Not something that would have ben on my radar professionally with what I do. But there was a time a few years ago that "Adult Swim" (Cartoon Network after hours) used it in bumpers. I was fascinated with the effect, but I was unsuccessfully in my own half-hearted endeavors. At that time it was a cumbersome process. Now this post has my interest again for use with a few music videos I have coming up at the end of the year. Hhhmmm... Research time...

What hex editor are you using? Can you post a sample of what you've done? I'm going to have to dive back into this again. Got a little bit of time to kill here and there. LOL!

To do that I used Avidemux 2.5.4.
Tutorial here: datamoshing.com/2016/06/26/how-to-datamosh-videos/

I will post samples tomorrow (18.07.2017 CEST time) :)

When I played around with it before I used the data corruption technique with, I think, Hexfiend.

It would be cool is someone coded a plugin for FCPX to do this.
