Display to compare two different shots (Not next to each other) and scopes from timeline? was created by coffee_king
As I dont know what this is called I cant search for it unfortunately.
I want to manually colour match two different clips that are in different places on the timeline.
I'd like to see Clip A and Clip B in the viewer above and also view the scopes for them.
This must be possible in FCPX so could someone advise what its called and how to display it please?
The only thing Ive been able to find is to compare a clip on the timeline with an event clip (with CMD + CTRL + 3), not two clips on the timeline, which is useless to me (I have no idea also why I'd ever want to compare in this manner, maybe someone can advise).
Thanks in advance.

The best way to achieve this right now would be:
1. Make a duplicate of the clip you want to use as a reference shot, and connect it above the clip you want to adjust.
2. Crop the connected reference clip or resize/move it so you can see both on the scope at the same time.
3. Fill out a Feedback form for Apple asking for a triptych view and/or a chop function in the main viewer .

What Scott said.
You've seen this?
It's not very helpful here, but I didn't know I could color correct *event* clips (there used to be a strict distinction in old FCP7, timeline clips had a dotted transport bar). Did you know?
For a quick comparison of two shots, you can also toggle s. Park the playhead on one shot, move the skimmer to the one you want to compare it to. Hide the skimmer, and you'll see one frame, hit s, and you'll see the other. At first, this might look not as good as the permanent reference clip. But try it, it's less fiddly than the makeshift WIPE (as Resolve would call it) above.

Hi
Thanks for the info. So this REALLY isnt possible then? Wow, bummer.
I tried what you suggested before I posted this but its really not working well enough for me.
Also both scopes on top of each other is looking like a mess.
Anyone got any other suggestions?
Is that what it would be called a "triptych view"?

2m36s onwards is helpful but my god what an awful, awful work around.
Sometimes I wish I hadnt ever bothered learning FCPX and wish I'd gone with something else instead (And I had FCPX when you couldnt even multicam and that was annoying enough)
Thanks guys.

Try Resolve, the roundtrip is quite reliable. You will find that it's somewhat more elegant there, but no revelation either. A tryptich view will never come for FCP X.

Feedback page! And I'd never say something was never going to come to FCPX.
