Proxy only version of library

Is there a way to make a copy of a library with only proxies? I want to give that library to a college, so he can edit at an other location.

Thanks, Micha

Hey Micha,

If you are only using video clips, this may be useful for you:

If you are also using stills, audio files or files with alpha channel, you will need to add these files to the duplicated Library.

As Ronny described that is possible. It's a lot simpler if you can give them the entire library with proxies. If you need external proxies to keep a "lean library", and if the portable drive name is different from the original volume name where the proxies were generated, it can get more complex. That requires relinking which does not work reliably in the case of external proxies.

If you know in advance that there should be a library with proxies only, you could prepare your clips to be self-contained, wrap them as movs. You can use FCP X for this and raid the "wrap library" or use EditReady. The reason is, FCP X allows you to leave these files in place. Nevertheless, when you check create proxies on import, those will be in the assigned library.

You'd then have to manually create backups for your media.
