Reloinking files with original names changed. was created by Jonathan Levin
Hi all.
I changed a bunch of file names on some .mov files in the finder. Nothing important at all. But when I open project, I get the expected red missing media. So with the name changes applied to the original clips, how do you re-link those files. I know this is dumb, but am trying an experiment of sorts here.
Thanks.
JL
BTW- that should be re-linking, not re-loinking, but I like that word!

Thanks Tom.
So I'll take that as a no, since I can't remember what the original file names are. They are in the same place (on desktop), but this sounds like a good lesson to never re-name original files unless you make note of old name....

Actually if I recall correctly you can relink to renamed media. It has to have the same specs though. Same length as minimum and same format at least.
I remember doing some restoration on some footage only to bring it back in. In this case I kept the same names and the specs were all relight but it didn't like it. Turns out that exporting the footage back out had dropped like 2 frames on the end.
I couldn't figure out how to restore the missing frames, so I just dripped a 1 sec black slug at the end and it was all good.
