Exporting to Dual Layer DVD from FCPX was created by mark.woodsford
I just wanted to ask a quick question if you don't mind. I have a 3 hour project I want to burn to a dual layer disc. However I don't like the simple menu options I get in FCP, so I am using Encore and Photoshop to create the menu. I am having trouble though exporting the timeline from FCPX into a 720x480 MPEG-2 that is not too compressed. It will only let me export to a single layer disc so the quality is terrible. What export settings should I be using to get this project ready to bring into Encore please. Any help will be super useful. Thanks in advance

You want to use Compressor's presets for that, IF have HAVE to give Encore an MPEG file. I don't use Encore, but I assumed it could take a ProRes file and do the transcode itself.

Agreed, you'll want to use Compressor to make the video files as well as the audio file (Dolby Digital AC3).However if your file is one big, long program you'll have to split it in two. The first part should be bigger than the second part, but not much bigger than 4GB or so as an .M2V file. Take the .m2v file and the .ac3 audio file into Encore or DVD Studio Pro (you'll need both as m2v is video only) (if you're still running an OS ancient enough where it works well) and author there. You will need to manually set the break point for the layers, but it should be fairly easy. Don't let Encore or DVD Studio Pro do the Compression for you or they will make the video480i when you could have much better looking 480p.
Protip: Don't use Linear PCM for audio. It eats up way too much space and bandwidth. You can encode higher quality video when your audio isn't uncompressed and it will look much better as a result. Make sure to set Dialog Normalization to -31 dbFs unless you like some nasty pumping effects in your sound.

Thanks for the reply. Compressor's Preset only seems to allow for single layer disc settings. It tries to compress it to below 4GB and this obviously loses quality. Is there a preset I am missing somewhere?
