Custom thumbnails in browser? was created by oliver.mackenzie
Hi all,
Is there a way to change the thumbnails in the media browser? I have a lot of compound clips saved in the browser that have been animated or been given a graphic effect through a title, so those compound clips don't give me an accurate thumbnail in the browser.

The first image is what the compound clip looks like in a project. The second clip is the compound clip's thumbnail in the browser.
Ideally, there'd be an option to save a fully rendered representation of compound clips in the browser, but even a method to manually replace thumbnails would be a tremendous help.

Do you mean a
posterframe
(my request some two weeks ago)?
The thumbnail appears to be created from the frame ten seconds into each clip. Any chance to hack this?
Send feedback to Apple, like I did.

Yes. That's unfortunate. Thanks.
I will.

Are filmstrips not working for you?

They are working, of course. I don't know why or if there is some hidden preference, but the filmstrips keep reverting to 1 thumbnail every 30 seconds, no matter what I manually chose instead ?!?
No doubt, if I see more thumbnails of a clip, I can then more easily identify it.
At the price of losing real estate. As discussed in the thread I linked to above, there is a time in my ever-evolving workflow when I prefer to see my clips in list view. That would be an early stage. I am used to prepare my footage thoroughly, like logging, commenting and renaming in FCP 7 prior to throwing anything into the timeline. I do that in the new workspace Organize. I love this improvement. I even toggle fullscreen, review, navigate, favor and reject everything just with a few keyboard commands. Later I tag it.
For editing in the project, I switch the UI to Standard. At this time I already know all my clips well enough to have them represented by a single thumbnail, and a small one, can I say "a little finger's nail"? Well, if there only had been an option to set one characteristic frame as the emblematic posterframe ...

There is a bug that resets the filmstrip to 30 seconds. I thought that had ben fixed, but perhaps I'm wrong.

The bugs in the browser are still there. Not consistent though. I prefer to sort by filetype and that often resets to "none" but not in all libraries/events. Filmstrip length also doesn't stick. Timeline view doesn't always stick either.
