You should be able to position to single frames. Sure you’re not zoomed in too far? Maybe post a screenshot.

you can see how the editor bar is just left of the beat. when i drag the editor to the right it skips over the beat and puts the editor line just to the right of the beat. its driving me nuts. thanks

Hi,

I am not a pro or anything, but I think you can't get it exactly on because you edit based on the frames in the video. You either add one full frame or you don't . You can't add "half" a frame, because then you would be switching either framerate or the devices would have to be able to delay a frame, I guess?! A work around could be to copy literally everything the in the project (If you have not done too much editing yet), open a new project with 60 fps or more, if possible. Then you will have more frames per second which should get you closer to the exact point of where the beat drops.

You could also try to make the music faster/slower by like 1%. Depending on how important it is for you to have a perfect audio, it would maybe be a "fix". You can then play around if you want to and hit the exact spot. Of course, if you have already edited a lot of the rest on to the beat, those parts will be slightly slightly off, unless you just accelerate the part right before and after so it does not affect anything else in your movie.

Other than that, I would just choose the closer frame, the viewer won't recognize any difference.

Just to add to the excellent explanation nobody can hear the difference between the position of the audio and the edge of the frame in real time playback. It’s just not possible for aural perception to distinguish the diffetence displayed here.

Usually it's not a good idea to cut to the beat (exceptions prove the rule). Particularly not for increasing momentum. It's better to cut to the rhythm. Makes a huge difference whether the cut is slightly before or after the beat, but on the beat precisely often feels wrong. Watch this trailer with all it's terrible stereotypes (french version, but doesn't matter).

The audience laughed out loud when it ran in the cinema. They found the mickeymousing cymbals on the explosions very bad too.
