Best and quickest way to create small export movie was created by Jonathan Levin
Hi all!
I need to dropbox a few 15 minute movies for client review. I just need a tiny picture, low quality. Mostly for referencing spoken audio.
So something like 320x240 would be fine. Compressor?
Thanks.

Perhaps make an SD sized H.264 preset in Compressor to use in FCPX. Possibly start by duplicating the "SD for Apple Devices", make it 24fps, play with frame size.

Thanks Mr. Guru!
SD, why didn't I think of that. One thing I wonder though. My video was shot at 29.97. So would changing the rate to 24fps alter the lenghth compared to original?
The reason I ask is my client will be picking out sections for me to work with using time on the video playback. Example: they want a section that starts at 1:49 to 2:10. I'd need that to align with my project time.
Also, and this may be dumb, but can PC's play h264? I can't recall. I do have flip4mac.

Most of what you watch on the web is H.264, yes, PCs can play it just fine. You can leave the frame rate the same. I'd simply save a copy for myself to reference what they want changed, and since I edited it, I know where to look in my original Timeline to make those changes. But you can leave the timecode the same.

A bit late to this, but right in FCP X's destinations there is one called "E-mail".
Pretty fast, low frame size, low quality.
It does attach the output file to an e-mail message, but you can take it from there and save it to your dropbox easily (control-click, Save Attachment)

Thanks all.
To follow up, I ended up doing the following based on a few different suggestions.
I Exported master file from FCP.I suppose I could have avoided the master file part. Dragged file to Compressor. Under the "Video Sharing Services" tab, I selected Small, duplicated that, renamed it. I changed multi pass to single pass, and that's about it.
My original videos were about 7 minutes. so each file was ~78MB. Each taking about 10 minutes to transcode. I then uploaded them to DropBox for client.
lichinho- thanks for the Email destination info. I am going to see how that looks in a few minutes.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Award for best advice this month goes to lichinho!!! I just ran a file through FCP's "Email" destination, which you first have to find and add in the preferences.
My longest clip, 10 minutes came in at 25MB compared to the 80MB for the way I did it. Smaller picture size but actually the perfect size for listening for certain audio. The Share took about 5 minutes too.
Wish I had done this before adding my others to DropBox, because upload took forever!
I'll remember this!
Thanks again.
