Lost playback

Hi, I'd be very grateful if someone could help me with a problem I suddenly have with FCPX- it will not play video back in either the timeline or the clip browser!

Skimming the cursor along the timeline or the clip still shows the video moving as does advancing frame by frame, but when I press the space bar, click the play button or select play from the menu the playhead goes red and the play icon becomes a pause icon but no playback happens.

I've trashed my preferences and restored FCPX from yesterday's Time Machine backup with no change. The problem affects all libraries, projects etc.

I'm on OS 10.11.6 & FCPX 10.2.3

First what codec did you import and are using?
Go to the File menu, and delete generated file (all render files).

Then I'd look at is your hardware configuration.
What percentage of each connected hard drive is free space right now?
What Mac are you on, what specs (GPU, RAM, CPU)?
Where is the Library, on your system drive or a secondary drive?
If on a secondary drive, what size, connection, disk rotation speed?

Thanks FCPX.guru- it's working fine today though! I can only assume that the attempts I made came into effect by turning it off overnight rather than the restarts I was doing yesterday?

I'll have my full setup details for you if it happens again.
