Show renamed favorites in clip view?
Now it would be nice to be able to see the new favorites' names over the thumbnails (smart collection or filter "favorites"), but they appear all with the untelling names of the mother clip. Is there a way to do this in clip view?
EDIT: ctrl p changes the playhead position. Set posterframe was an old FCP 7 command. It just happened to work for the time being, since apparently the clip thumbnail is created from the last position the playhead/skimmer was on. I really wonder why nobody made this a feature request, since it obviously would be very useful ...
EDIT 2: used Google, but in the hurry I found no posterframe option in FCP X. Is that correct? Then I'll send feedback myself.

What about the favorites' names? You obviously know FCP X like the back of your hand (hence your name).

FCPX.guru wrote: What about the Favorites names? Not sure what that means exactly, unless you are asking if you can change it from Favorites to something else. Yes, absolutely, I do it daily. I never make a Favorite without renaming it with something descriptive.
I'm asking this:
1. I renamed the favorites in list view.
2. I choose clip/thumbnail view.
3. I see only the favorites in the browser - BUT:
They have the names of the clips they're selected from above them!

As I see it right now (I've been changing approaches every few days recently), both list view and clip view have their advantages. List view offers more detailed information at an early stage ("Organize") and a column you can pull into view for notes. Clip view is more attractive to visually find the clips you look for in editing mode, where you pick shots for the timeline. An editor has his memory programmed like that, isn't hat true? Like the Memory game. At this time I have already revisited and prepared ("logged" as you would have called it in legacy FCP) all footage and am familiar with the chosen icon to represent it in filmstrip view.
In combination with batch-renaming clips in the browser (that way the names will appear above the favorites, just not for multiple selections) AND posterframes ( :S
A friend of mine - former Adobe teacher - was asked if he could edit on FCP X several times now but had to turn the job offers down. He once tried it for an hour on my computer (was fit on FCP 7) and found it pathetic, iMovie, he said. Now he asked me to convince him by showing him why I use it. I know I have an afternoon at best. If I can't win him over in the first minutes, the chance is gone. He saw the Thomas Grove Carter demo, I sent him the link, and he was reluctantly admitting that this looked useable. That's why I try so hard to improve my workflow, in case you wonder ...

NLE's are personal preference. I've actually had a couple of PPro users ask me to show them why they should switch. I normally refuse to get into such a juvenile pissing match. I asked why they wanted to switch, and there was no response except that they wanted to get into a pissing match and prove me wrong.
It's like asking a red car owner to convince you to buy a green car. Who cares?
Tell him to use what he wants to use. If he needs to be convinced FCPX is actually usable, that's easy. All the front page articles about major projects done here on FCP.co, the film WTF that used Coremelt plugins, and the In Action page on Apple's FCPX web site.

Every editor is different, thinks different, edits different, organizes media different, for the most part. I'm an FCPX trainer. If someone wants to learn it, I'll teach it. If someone wants me to convince them to switch, I give them the registration URL for my next class.
FCPX works the way it works, and if you come from legacy FCP or another NLE, forget everything you know about that other NLE, and start from scratch with FCPX. It's simply different.

Just an update on how it went following your advice. I told him, look, I respect you too much to lure you into something you don't want. I don't feel comfortable with that.
I recommended an FCP X training and told him that as an experienced trainer he should know how to get into this, if that is what he wanted.
Yesterday he told me on the phone that he had made progress and that he actually started to like editing with FCP X. You were right.
