FCP X Work Has Gone Missing On Upgrade!

Hey there guys,
I hope that this message finds you all in excellent spirits, and that you are having a great week.

I have a bit of a problem which I am hoping you can help me with: I recently migrated from a 2012 MacBook Pro to a new (mid-2015) one, and I used Migration Assistant via a Time Machine external drive.

After the Migration Assistant process had finished, the Final Cut Pro Dock icon was crossed out. I got an error message stating that I needed to update the App from the App Store. So I did precisely this, and about 90 minutes later it had downloaded and installed the latest version of FCP X (10.3.3).

The problem is this: when I run FCP X on the new machine, I cannot see any of my work! I do not know why this is. The FCP X files that were located in the 'Movies' directory seem to have transferred across successfully, but when I open FCP X, it is as if I had never done any work at all. There are no projects, events or video clips. All I can see to differentiate the situation from a completely blank copy is one photograph and some titles.

As ever, I would be grateful for any assistance that you guys can offer!

It's a long way from 10.0.9 to 10.3.3. First you need to update your projects and events to libraries. You can't go directly to 10.3.3. You need the trial version of 10.2.3, which is the last version that has this update function. There's a link to the 10.2.3 trial on this web page.

For the process of getting from pre-10.1 the post-10.1 library format read starting here

www.fcpxbook.com/updates/101/101libraries.html

Once you've updated the projects and events into 10.,2.3 libraries you can open them in 10.3.3.

Many thanks for your kind message, which is sincerely appreciated.

Does the following roadmap make sense?

1. Drag FCP X to Trash;
2. Download FCP X 10.2.3;
3. Convert Events and Projects to Libraries;
4. Install FCP X 10.3.3.

No need to do step one. The 10.2.3 trial is a separate application with a different name. You can have both of them at the same time.

Hi there,
I have downloaded 10.2.3 and updated the projects and events. However, when I open 10.3.3, it is still blank.

How do I view the new libraries in FCP 10.3.3? Please forgive my ignorance!
