Can I get a multitrack Quicktime out of Compressor? was created by tangierc
All of our masters are multitrack quicklimes coming out of FCP X which is great when we use those masters for trailers and promos; being able to separate the music, effects, etc.
Sometimes I need an H264 that's multitrack which FCP X can do, but Compressor is really intergraded into our workflow for non-master version. Is there any way to get a multitrack out of Compressor for these smaller versions of our edits?

Not really, you can only configure mono, stereo, and surround sound depending on how many channels are available in the original. Not sure how Compressor would be the place to do this. How would Compressor be easier to do this in, rather than FCPX?

We have to create web based versions of out edits for a particular online platform. Compressor gives us the options to adjust the specifics as needed, but we can't get FCP X roles as options in Compressor. Whereas it is possible to get multitrack H.264s out of FCP X, but don't have all of the control of parameters that Compressor offers.
It'd be nice if more could be sent from FCP X to Compressor, or if FCP X had some of the fine parameter control that Compressor offers.

So, you make presets in Compressor for each file spec you have to deliver. Export straight out of FCPX with the ability to assign roles to multiple channels. Great thing is, you don't have to wait for one export to finish before setting up another.

I understand that, but that isn't the point. It' that Compressor gives me the final parameter control that FCP X with doesn't or I haven't found for streaming versions that I need; these are H.264 files. However it can't give me multichannel file.
So it seems that both Apps have one leg up over the other with regards to exporting capabilities, but I need all of the export parameter options to be available in at least one of the apps.

Yep, same goes for our closed captioning needs in broadcast.

definitively not my domain, not Compressor nor Roles… but as a kind-of workaround?
• create a NEW project with the specs you need (here, for demo: 360x240)
• copy/paste everything from your Original project into it
• do your usual output-routine to create a multi-track.h264 with custom res:
...?
But that's indeed surprising, that there are no multi-tracks in Compressor (aside Dolby5.1.) nor that Roles are integrated … probably, we have to wait for the mysterious Roles-Mixer, I guess
