Possible to auto import files for FCPX?

I have a project where we will be adding files to the event every single day for the next few months. Basically keep adding footage to the project. Is there a way to automatically or script the import process, like maybe a watch folder? Or do I have to do this 100 times?

There is no built-in watch folder function. But there are media asset management systems, very affordable ones, that will handle that. You will also want to use something like Lumber Jack to get metadata ready to import to track all of that more easily.

I don't understand your workflow…

'Import' to an NLE in general, and into FCPX especially isn't just to shovel files from MediaA to DriveB…
You can select BEFORE transfer what qualifies to reach your hard-drives; you can tag your stuff; create smart lists, 'bundle' scenes; add notes, add searchable dialogue transcripts; etc etc etc
Not to forget backups/archives…

And you could apply first grades/balancing, check for integrity of data, synch ext audio with video, etc pp …
Best of all: doesn't cost extra ;)

So, what or why should be automated???

OK, this is going to be long winded, but we had very fast turnaround on a production, no time to play inside of FCPX. A watch folder would not have done the complex media management we achieved inside the Finder itself. Offering this as food for thought. Basically:

Before the production started, I made a folder structure for each day of shooting.

Each day of production camera cards were copied to appropriate folders, and we utilized Finder tags (keywords and colors).

After the last batch of cards has copied for the day, we would launch FCPX and select that one folder for the day, and tell FCPX to assign keyword collections based on folders and Finder tags. Go to dinner.

Yes, copying the cards to a RAID was much faster and efficient than copying into an FCPX library. We ran numerous tests before the production and consulted with FCPWorks. The required turnarounds were much to fast.

I don't know that a watch folder could have done the complex media management we were able to do with just the Finder (which is free).
