Keyframe exposure in FCPX ? was created by coffee_king
Hi Guy
I need to keyframe an exposure, how do I do this please?
Is it even possible in FCPX?
I've had a look on YouTube for a tutorial but cant find one for exposure.
How do you guys handle this when you edit video thats shot from going somewhere dark to light (Or vice verser) say going from indoors to outdoors etc
Thanks in advance.

The official solution is to cut the clip and use a cross dissolve to transition between the two settings.

How would I go about doing this similar with Blade Speed as I cant see cuts to add the transition to?

I don’t understand the question. Are you still talking about keyframing color? Maybe a screenshot of what you’re seeing and expecting to see would help.

... or has light sources with different color temperatures, usually both.
1. I color correct the clip in the timeline, only for one exposure/WB.
2. I drag the clip above itself while holding alt, thereby connecting a duplicate.
3. I color correct the duplicate for the second situation.
4. I open the keyframe editor and set keyframe for the first frame of the duplicate with opacity set to zero.
5. I find a point a few frames before things start to look weird (on the primary clip beneath, now fully visible) and set a keyframe with alt + k (for the connected clip, of course).
6. I raise the opacity as needed.
7. Often different scenarios are framed by walls, windows or doorways. Then I animate very rough and feathered masks and fade them in and out with keyframes as well. This needs some experimenting. But even f there were keyframes for exposure and color, you couldn't make the transitions plausible with them alone, so what?

So, this was working before but now its stopped working under slighlty different circumstances.
My camera operator decided (For some daft reason) to mess around with the aperture during one long shot.
So now I have some footage where you can see the CLICK of the aperture change.
Easy to fix......You'd think......
I've exposed both sides of the clips so they match as well as I can, but obviously there's still a little CHANGE in exposure.
Ive tried adding a cross dissolve but I can still clearly see where the aperture "Clicks" to change.
Its really weird. Any thoughts?
