banding problem

I'm editing some music videos I shot a couple of weeks ago using Canon DSLRs. The lighting was concert lighting, moving heads, washes, spots etc with a haze machine.

Anyway on some of the shots there is occasional banding, I think due to a clash between shutter speed and the frequency of the lighting.

is there a plug-in that might be able to correct or improve these shots?

I don't know if there's a plugin. Motion used to have a dither option - but that was meant for gradients in graphics, not so much for existing banding in the image.

Didn't try it myself (haven't any footage with visible banding, fortunately), but the new Compressor update has a dither-filter (under quality). If there are only a few shots with heavy banding, you might try to export them with he filter applied.

Smoothing them out manually (mask, soften, add noise? something like that?)? Sounds like tough work.

Flicker Free by Digital Anarchy can often fix this. It is very compute-intensive and slow to run, but it can miraculously fix many banding and flicker problems.
