I think it is time to slay that tired wheezing old dragon, Apple is going into the future with a brilliant team..
First it was Wes of Automatic Duck, now Tim Dashwood, 2 of many brilliant engineers and designers, that bring to Apple FCPX a wealth of knowledge that will in the very short time make huge changes to FCPX.
Apple would I hope not bully Wes and Tim into joining Apple just to shut them down, that I don't think is the plan, with the recent announcement of "Yip we are planning new Mac Pro's and displays", this indicates that Apple is taking editing video seriously...
It must be so frustrating for the dev team to hear day in and day out that FCPX is not professional.. We the users all agree that X is the most professional NLE out there...
With Avid releasing a very limited free version, this cannot counter the offer of student rates for Logic+X , plus all the rest.. Avid's reason was to get people to start to use the free Avid, then later upgrade, but the limited functionality will maybe not be the best approach.
I hope that the future of FCPX sees the introduction of Tim's products as standard, not as plug in's but as built in functionality. On that point, let's thank Tim for making the products $0.00!!!
It is what Apple is doing that matters, Apple for a long time seemed to almost trash FCPX, long periods of no updates., then 2 versions, now talk of new mac pro's, new displays, new staff hires.. I was one that doubted the commitment of Apple to FCPX, I admit to that, seeing how Logic seemed to get all the love, but now Tim is no fool, Wes is not an idiot, they are going to make an impact...
I feel the future of X is bright!!!

I have spoken to an Apple insider about this and Tim Dashwood is most likely not on the FCPX dev team from the evidence insiders are seeing. He is with "Apple" and most probably with the designated VR/AR team, not the FCPX team.
Apple is doing a big push for VR capabilities, but at the OS & hardware levels. He'll most probably be helping an operating system/hardware based effort, which we hope opens up opportunities inside of FCPX.
As for Westplate, is he in the FCPX dev team, or the OS dev team? That's never been confirmed. What he's good at would benefit the OS as a whole, also.
So the benefits are for Apple as a whole, and we "assume" those efforts will trickle down into FCPX.
I could be accused of being an FCPX "fan-boy" but it is far from the "only" professional NLE out there. It is one of half a dozen. Grass Valley still has a strong standing in the industry, for example. I'd not go that far, Justine.
But based on the inside information that has been shared with me, 2017 should see some exciting update for FCPX. That's all I'm allowed to say before black SUVs start to gather us up and we disappear...

You're aware, Ben, that your prediction make those calendar Kabbahlists getting hasty?
… the scary part is:
those diamond-black LexusRX are driver-less :woohoo:
SCNR!

We don't know the in's and outs of Apple Dev, the size of the team, the mandate of the team, who head's what and who is a drone...
The point is Tim, Wes and others are not at Avid, they are not at Adobe, not at Sony, Blackmagic, they are doing or will soon be doing stuff in relation to Apple products, be it FCPX, iMovie or whatever...
That was the point, I could not care less who does what, I will never know, you will never know which line of code or who's idea was who's, the point is it is enough that Tim, Wes and others have gone to Apple and not the others mentioned above...
This points to something brilliant down the line, Apple has a plan, who knew 10.3 was going to be the way it is...From where we started at 10.0 to where 10,3 is, is massive, not only massive but 2 huge changes of idea in such a short period.
Avid and the rest have not in 20+ years made anywhere the amount of change X has done, nor does the Avid and others have the same dedicated community involvement, For Apple to hire full-time, part time, or as consultants, matters not, the only thing that matters is that Apple is putting serious money on the table to improve what we all love so much about...
I am so grateful to Wes, Tim, Alex and the community for being so dedicated to Apple, to develop plug in's that make editing and post work a thing we look forward too..
