1 frame artifacts on Ken Burns of a still photo

I have a few places in a piece we're doing that have one-frame artifacts when moving a still B&W photo with Ken Burns. I've
upgraded to 10.3.3 (from .2)
re rendered the files (which makes the artifacts come in different places)

I'm attaching screen shots of two partial frames that are next to each other for a visual reference.

Thoughts?

What are the graphics capabilities of your system? What are the project properties? How large are the images?

Artifact issues with Ken Burns effect will almost always be caused by your system memory filling up.

The only remedy is to take your photos into a Photoshop/Affinity Photo/Pixelmator (Whatever your app of preference) and create a smaller pixel size to work with.

When doing this, be careful to ensure that the pixel aspect ratio remains identical to the original photo.

Save it a as a Jpeg also. Even if original is a Tif or other format. Jpegs will be far more friendly to your RAM.

With all that being said, I think we should all send Feedback to Apple that this is simply not acceptable. As a pro user, I should have the opportunity to load my system up with Ram and use the most powerful video cards available.

Hopefully, this is exactly what Apple is working towards with their recently announced "pro" iMacs and "Modular" Mac Pros. Feedback is always good, though.

Thanks for the responses. I have replaced all tiff images with jpegs, restarted final cut, restarted my computer, and even tried it on a newer iMac that has 32 GB of RAM and 4 GB of video RAM, but the artifacts still show up every time, both in the timeline and in the export. (I've also deleted the render files and re rendered them and tried it on local drives vs. an attached RAID.) Don't know where else to go from here. (BTW, too bad replacing an image doesn't keep the Ken Burns Effect. What a pain that was.) The whole piece is only four minutes long and is pretty simple.

There might be something else going on with your system.

Just to help narrow it down, let me be clear about what you've done so far.
Did you downsize the images? Or did you just open up the tiff and rescale it as a jpeg?

If the image size is larger than 4000 pixels wide, I've seen similar problems

We did downsize all the images (some were tiffs that we changed to jpegs)). Also,we've resized them so now they are all less than 4,000 pixels. But the problem continues.

Artifacts like this can also be caused by storage issues. Have you looked at that? Insufficient speed, a drive getting full or other factors can cause things like this. The majority of artifact issues I have seen were due to storage or graphics card issues.

I agree that it's starting to sound like a hardware problem. I personally suspect the graphics card.

Lermentov, hope you get to the bottom of this problem.
I know how frustrating it can be to have a ghost in the machine.

Please let us know if you discover the cause.

So even though we had copied the library (that contained all the assets) to another computer, we didn't do a complete re rendering. So after we rerendered the entire project, the artifacts went away on that computer.

I suspect it is a bad 4GB video card on our iMac. What a pain to figure this one out. But I learned a lot doing so. Thanks everyone for your help.
