MXF files , do they need to be converted was created by robinsaini
Hello,
Most of the files we shoot are on 5dMark III & iV which makes .mov files while Sony f7S makes .MxF files.
So while importing footage in Fcp X , I realized that when you are skimming MXF footage, the process becomes very slow as compared to skimming mov files,do I need to convert .MXF file to Mov and then import in FCPX to make FXP work faster ?
Also, When I make a event (suppose by name Day 1) and import footage from Mark III, & 4 (name of folder Mark III & mark Iv along with footage of F7s with folder name F7s, Under event it only shows 2 folders mark III and Mark iV and respective files in it and shows all f7s files under main event name Day 1, it does not make a folder by name of F7s ?
how can I resolve this issue ?

The 5D3 only produces 1080p H264 material, which is easy to edit. The 5D4 does likewise for 1080p, and for 4k uses the low-compression motion JPEG codec. That is also easy to edit, although the data rate is high.
Your F7S is probably shooting H264 4k which is hard to edit because both (a) compression is high and (b) data per frame is 4x 1080p. This is likely why it is slow -- not because of the file suffix or wrapper format. If it's any consolation it would be a lot slower on Premiere Pro on the same hardware.
Your best option is transcode the H264 4k content to proxy or optimized media. Proxy is nice because it's smaller and fast to edit. Unfortunately FCPX has a single global "mode switch" between proxy and optimized/regular, so in proxy mode it cannot see clips without proxy files. To avoid repetitively switching the viewer in and out of proxy mode, you will need to either (a) generate proxy files for all media and edit everything in proxy mode, or (b) generate optimized files for the H264 4k stuff and edit in optimized/original mode.

I shoot 1080p with f7s only, regarding proxy media, this is what you meant?
- Import all media by ticking "Create Proxy Media under Transcoding"
- Under view , change setting to Better performance & Proxy
- but when I export , I change the setting under View to better performance & Optimized/original
Right ?
