i was playing around with the crop feature on 4k video which seems to be a pretty powerful tool. love the fact that i can take super-wide angle drone footage (no choice here at this point) and basically add my zoom by cropping.

Question.

obviously the image quality lowers the more you crop. is there a way to crop down to 1080 and actually see the pixel dimensions somewhere while you making the crop? thanks

Are you putting the 4K in a 1080 project? What's your workflow here? The output pixel dimensions don't display only the amount cropped and the scale, which is the critical function.

Hey Owen,
Do you have your 4k footage in a 1080 project? Click on the clip in the project and in the inspector make sure that the spatial confirming is set to none. Now you can zoom in up to 4 times without losing quality. Usually, you wouldn't have to zoom in more than that.

what would happen if you crop in the video when it's in a 4k timeline?

Using the crop/crop function? The image gets scaled up over 100%.

Depending on the Spatial Conform setting, scaling up over 100% may be a problem, or not.
If the default setting, Fit, is used, then 100% means fit, or 50% of the actual size, for a 4K clip in a 1080p timeline.
So 200% will be actual size.

As we crop, the scaling percentage appears at the top of the viewer, so we can have a pretty good idea where we are going.

I've found if you want to use 4K in a 1080/720 timeline for zoom purposes, you must set Spacial Conform to None and work from there. Or you get fuzzy image.
