Hi,

I'm trying to find out how to export a 30s commercial that complies with the DCM guidelines.

They say it needs to be in the DPX format, which I have never heard of, nevertheless it exists apparently and I need to find a way to produce it.

Any help much appreciated!

If you just need to export a DPX out of FCP X, that's easy: press Share > Add Destination > Image Sequence and in the image sequence Export drop-down, select DPX Image. Then export your commercial using this preset.

But are you sure that's what they want? Digital Cinema usually requires you to deliver a DCP, and that's a totally different beast.

It's a DPX or Tiff sequence but just in case I'm wrong, how do you produce a DCP?

If it's a DPX or a TIFF sequence, you can export those straight from your timeline using the setting I have shown.

DCP is way more complex and requires a dedicated DCP creation app such as DCP-O-Matic, Open DCP, Raptor and the likes. You also need to tweak quite some settings to get a perfect result. That's why creating your own DCP is a process of trial and error and may cost you more money in terms of time spent on it than if you just let a professional post house do it for you.

After all, many facilities create DCPs for their customers day in and day out, which naturally means that their process is streamlined and their results will reflect that.

But if you really need to create a DCP and you want to DIY, post back and I will give you some tips to get started.
