Missing Second half of audio missing was created by csilverman
Has anyone ever had an issue with the second half of audio missing after import?
I have had it happen multiple times over the years with various versions of FCPX... always seems to happen when importing multiple (10 or more) h.264 mp4 files.
I tried deleting and re-importing—same thing. Checked the files outside of FCPX... and they have audio throughout.
Thoughts?
Thank You!

Are you checking the background process window to verify FCPX is not still trying to generate thumbnails and waveforms? If you import a lot of material at once, or long duration material, it can take some time of that to happen. It's not always immediate. Just a thought, as I've never seen this issue before.

Good point... I'll try it again and see what happens.
Can't say that I made it a point to verify on the initial import.,. but wondering...
wouldn't FCPX creating thumbnails and drawing waveforms be separate from having picture and audio?
They are just a representation of what FCPX finds/sees in the actual file... no?

So you're not hearing it either, wow, THAT is really odd. Right-click, reveal in Finder, that file is fine. That is odd.
OK, so now to what file formats you're importing, Mac specs, etc, the usual suspects. Did you try deleting pref files, deleting render files, etc?

They are h.264 mp4 files—in this particular instance they were created with Handbrake—though in the past the files were given to me already in that format.
Running OSX Sierra and FCPX 10.3.2—though this has happened on various machines with different configs and versions of FCPX.

"... this has happened on various machines with different configs and versions of FCPX."
Then I'd focus on the files themselves. Something is odd about them.

Hey Charles,
Can you send me one or two of those problematic files, exactly as you get them before you import? We would like to have a look at them.

Thank you Ronny... I appreciate the offer... unfortunately due to client confidentiality I'm unable to do so. Obviously there are workarounds (converting to proRes before import, etc.)
I was just wondering if anyone else has ever encountered this issue.

I've never seen this as an FCPX issue.

I have had the same problem. Made proxies of a map with about 50 Canon 5D movies, in the browser half of the proxies where missing audio (and the audio waveform) But in Quicktime or VLC the 'silent' proxiefiles just played back with all audio intact. So ALL the proxies did have audio! Only FCPX did not see (or hear) that in the browser or the timeline.
The same happened with EX1 files, straight imported from the SXS card. Half of the 'Original' files where missing audio after importing! But they played fine, with audio, in Quicktime.
My solution: disabled the 'Remove silent channels' and 'Separate' and 'Analyze' features on the Import Window.
So far so good! Never had silent proxies or imported EX1 files again...

Interesting... unfortunately I have never used those parameters on import... but glad to read that if remedied the issue for you.
