Media Management - Organising in folders by date
I can't believe this is as difficult as I'm finding it so hopefully someone can point me to an easy answer.
I use Lightroom for photos its imports them, organises them, allows me to search and do most editing required. The way it stores the photos is in folders by year\month\day and auto imports to the correct folder. I find this nice, neat and simple enough for my small brain to cope with.
What I want is a video programme that can do the same, I looked at KYNO thanks to an article on here and really liked it, the problem is that it doesn't handle the import.
I looked at Hedge (again thanks to an article on here), that does a great job copying files but not creating the folder structure.
So can anyone recommend a program that will handle the import and copy videos into a year\month\day folder structure automatically.
Thanks
James

In a fashion, FCPX can do this by itself. After importing your content, select View>Browser>Group Clips By>Content Created. Then in the Event Browser do an OPT+click on any "disclosure triangle" on the left. All clips will be shown in categories by date. You can selectively open each one, or open them all with another OPT+click on the triangle.
However FCPX is not designed to mimic the folder hierarchy of the outside file system. It is a database and works best when used that way. It has immense ability to search and organize content but it is a relational, not hierarchical database.
Here is a video describing some of this, but it bears further study to efficiently leverage this capability:

The real magic of Lightroom only starts to become available when you use keywords and metadata templates. If you move beyond the idea that your Lightroom Vault can only be organized as it is by dated subfolders, you realize the folders are nothing more than a huge bucket into which you dump your photos and media--just like FCPX's library bundle. If you use LR's library interface to sort your images by keyword, flag, label, and rating then you might begin to understand how your FCPX browser can be used to make the may ours you spend in front of your Mac far more interesting. Highly recommend any of the many third party Lightroom books on the shelves at Barnes and Nobel or amazon to help you unlock this power. We have volumes from Adobe and Kelby.

Thanks for both replies, I'm not sure I made myself clear however.
I do use the keyword, meta, ratings in Lightroom and having read the article about KYNO I think that would be perfect for organising / viewing video in the same way that I could then push into FCP for editing.
I suppose I could dump all the videos into a single folder and then use KYNO to keyword but that seems a bit messy so I wanted to store them by date so they are neatly organised and then use key wording for search and organising.
Hope that makes more sense.
Thanks
James
