Can't make my project 1080 50i was created by jpd99
Hi All,
First post on the forum. I need to make a project that is 1080 50i but the 50i option does not come up when creating a new project. Only 25i or 29.97i.
How can I make it 1080 50i? Presuming it's a very simple answer.
Thanks for your time

Welcome J to fcp.co
Answer is indeed silly simple: 25i IS 50i
25 counts frames, 50 counts fields = same.

Just for fun, from Wiki:
"In native or pure 1080i, the two fields of a frame correspond to different instants (points in time), so motion portrayal is good (50 or 60 motion phases/second). This is true for interlaced video in general and can be easily observed in still images taken of fast motion scenes. However, when 1080p material is captured at 25 or 30 frames/second, it is converted to 1080i at 50 or 60 fields/second, respectively, for processing or broadcasting. In this situation both fields in a frame do correspond to the same instant."
But yeah, if you need interlaced 1080 50, use 25i.

hu? That's some confusing advice from wiki …
btmk:
a cam set to 25i records two different fields
a cam set to 25p AND recording in PsF, creates two identical fields.
a cam set to 25p and recording in 25p, creates no fields, but frames.
anyhow, … interlace is a pita, to sum it up... :woohoo:

And camera manufacturers who come up with garbage like PsF is a PITA. Yeah, let's all give a cheer for "industry standards". Was a time when everything was just one standard. Then HD came and we got more standards than you can shake a stick at. Wiki's advice is not confusing, it is simply explaining the engineering standards of 1080. Blame Sony and Panasonic and others for the obscure implementation that creates so much confusion.

Nope, the excerpt is confusing. I've re-read the article
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080i
… now I got it:
Meant is, that on broadcast, 1080p material gets 'interlaced' with identical content in both fields..
That has nothing to do with recordings using that obscure PsF format…
I misunderstood the 'on broadcast' part. So, I was under the impression, p gets always recorded as i… which it doesn't. You get source material in 30p and 30i aka 60i aka 29.97i …
eeeendless joy, these 'interlace' stuff. Lucky us, with rec2020 its over …
