Hello
A time ago i was used to import my gopro files using gopro studio. This will give me .mov files using the cineform codec of gopro.
However I dont know if this is still needed when using final cut X

Can i get the same quality if I directly import the files from my gopro to fcp using the optimized media option??

Another question, if I decide (for editing only) using proxy media, when I decide to create the final output, can I switch to optimized media so I dont get any downgrade in image quality??

Thanks in advance

Yes, use the files natively. FCPX has supported them for some time now. Using GoPro Studio only gives you a new codec, not better image quality. You can't get better image quality than what was recorded to the file.

IF you are on slower, more limited hardware, you can let FCPX Optimize them to ProRes, or make Proxy Media to work with more easily.

If you create Proxy media, to switch back and forth from the Optimized/Original to Proxy, in the Viewer Settings menu (top right of Viewer), there is a setting there. This tells FCPX which version of the media to use. Set it to Optimized/Original before exporting, or it'll export based on the Proxy media (which is OK for quick approvals but not final deliverables).
