Novice Question: "window pane" perspective was created by quietleader
Hello,
I am (obviously) new to FCPX and would like to find a tutorial or "how to" article. I want to create the perspective of looking through a window pane at movies that are playing outside.
However, the window pane I want is not rectangular...it is a triangle. Please see the attached image.
Would this be done with a mask? Separate movies inside small triangles, that are inside a large triangle seems a little complex for masks, but I could be wrong. My only hope is I can do this WITHOUT the need for additional software. FCPX only if possible.
Suggestions and/or guidance is greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
W

Hi Warren, welcome to the forums.
Actually this is quite easy to do using the Mask tool. I took your still and added some masks over it in just 5 minutes:
Explaining how takes much more time, and I have to go now. I can make a tutorial by this evening, unless in the meantime someone else can show you how to do this.
You will find that creating the masks is the easy part. Trying to fit video into a triangle so you still see what's happening inside is much more difficult. As you may see this only will work with medium to very wide shots. Close-ups don't fit in a triangle.

@Ronny:
as far as I understand Warren, his goal is much simpler …
Step#1
background into Timeline, 'Window' upper lane
apply Effects/Masks/Draw Mask to upper
Step#2
… draw mask, click Invert Mask
repeat 9 times…
no step3…
In case, you need such a Mask frequently, consider to 'paint' one in any paint.app at hand (black triangles on whit ground, 1920x1080) and utilise FCPX' Image Mask …
