Does anyone know the best way to achieve this effect in FCPX?

I saw this video tutorial on YouTube about creating video transition effects without using plugins. The person is using premiere. I was looking in FCPX and played around with the flash , glow transition but still was not satisfied with the results. Is there a better way of doing this without having to go into Motion 5? Just curious.

Without having seen the video I bet you are referring to the light leaks transition, which mimics film being exposed to light directly if not "loaded in subdued light". Imo these look best if they are done with "stock footage" like in this tutorial:
One could do the same with a combination of different default FCP X effects, but since real light leaks (which were literally thrown in the trash back then) are completely random and have nothing to do whatsoever with the colors of the images you want to apply them to, it's faster and better to start a youtube-search for "light leaks", and there are plenty of free and excellent ones for you to download.

I did not want to post the URL because it is too long ; the guys goes through a lot of different effects. I just wanted to get right to the point with the hopes of receiving an answer fast.

I see your point or just upload a quick screen capture (which I did) clip to show. Both methods are good I tired that start at time before but it did not work not sure if it was something I did or not. I did not want to leave things to chance for something to go wrong; then all of this getting lost in translation on a forum. However thanks for refreshing me with this information I will certainly revisit it the next time. I do appreciate the advice.
