New Camera, New Workflow was created by stephenmick
My partner and I are changing things up this year, and we've moved to a new camera (the Sony FS7 Mark II). Previously, we were shooing on the Sony FS5, recording everything externally in ProRes with a recorder. This made the workflow pretty simple… Set up custom clip names, shoot, offload/backup to multiple drives, then import into FCPx for editing.
Now, with the FS7, our workflow needs to evolve a bit. We'll be doing almost all of our recording in-camera, using the XAVC-I codec. The FS7 can set custom clip names, so we'll still be able to use that part of our workflow. After that, I need a bit of advice.
Here's what I'm thinking we'll start doing…
1. Shoot (obviously)
2. Use Hedge to copy and verify memory cards to multiple hard drives for security.
3. Use FCPx to create Camera Archives of each memory card. (All Camera Archive files will live on a mirrored RAID setup for safe keeping.)
4. Create library for project and import media from Camera Archive files. (Active/working media and libraries will live on a RAID 5 Thunderbolt setup.)
5. Edit.
Any refinements/suggestions for our workflow? We don't normally need to share files with other editors, so I'm comfortable having FCPx keep media in the library, but I'm also not married to the idea.
Thanks!
