I'm currently editing a 1hr 20min concert Multicam sequence. I've had an ongoing issue that's very annoying. Every time I re open FCPX and click View > Proxy to work on the proxy versions the beach ball of death appears and won't go away, FCPX won't respond and my only way back in is to trash preferences every time. It's so long winded! I am editing 1080p files (thats the original size) on a Retina 5K iMac (32GB Mem/4GHZ processor and AMD R9 4096MB Graphics card) on macOS Sierra. The files have color finale as the only effect and all my original media is stored outside the library.
Thanks for any help/advice anyone may have, maybe my workflow is off somewhere...

What happens if you close that Library, and first create an empty Library with no media in it, then switch to Proxy mode, then open your Multicam Library? I think the Proxy view is an app-wide toggle that's non-specific to Libraries, so theoretically this should let you open the Library immediately in Proxy mode without needing to wait for the file paths to switch over from Original to Proxy.
Both worked. If I waited around 20 minutes the beach ball went. If I had a blank library and changed between optimised and proxy then back to the library I was working on, that also worked. Thanks for your help.
