RELINK FILES

I am using the relink function now and then often for keeping all adjustments attached to a clip, and often after changing stuff made in Motion . Even after saved/shared the video-file from Motion in exactly the same name I always had to relink the file from menu but now it is relinking directly if saving in the same name. Is this a change in FCPX or is there a function you can turn of and on that I have missed ? I still on 10.3.1. Anyhow it is very useful after changing Photoshop or Motion files.

I've found it will update the file if it is External Media, but not if it is Managed Media (stored in the Library). And it is a buggy behavior. There's no official documentation that FCPX actually is meant to support this type of updating of files. But it sure would be nice! Feedback form time!

Well, I always use "Copy to Library" when importing but the only reason to this issue is that I of some reason have turned that off. So then replace a file with the same name will automatically change it on timeline. So i simply used the "Consolidate" function and now everything is inside the Library. But this open up my mind perhaps this is a better workflow if you are working with files that probably will be changed a lot of times during the creative process. Just leaving them external, let them change on timeline automatically with any adjustments made and then when you ready "consolidate" it to library. "Every cloud has a silver lining"
